This document presents the standards and practices of the National Certification Council for Leadership Mastery™, the NCCULM™. We require anyone wishing to become a certified Leader through NCCULM™ to adopt and master these standards of professional practice.  It is our wish that you join our organization as a Certified Leadership Mastery Professional.  We will assist you in fulfilling your desire to become certified at one or more levels of expertise.  Please call us at (407) 864-7756 to learn more or begin your certification process. 

The National Certification Council of Leadership Mastery™ is one of the Certifying Bodies recognized by the Systems Management Institute and incorporates the practices of UlThule™ Leadership Mastery. NCCULM™ Certification Standards 

Welcome to the certification process of the National Certification Council for UlThule™ Leadership Mastery, NCCULM™. We certify the Leadership Profession at four levels: 

  1. Certified UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Assistant™, CULMA™

  2. Certified UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Professional™, CULMP™

  3. Certified UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Director™, CULMD™

  4. Certified UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Specialist™, CULMS™ 

NCCULMS™ offers several tracks for each level of certification to assist you in developing your Leadership Mastery. Each track defines the qualifying criteria for certification at each level taken from five different areas of knowledge and experience including: (1) academic education; (2) Leadership experience; (3) continuing education from related bodies of knowledge, (4) consulting experience in Leadership for the CULMP™, and (5) self-directed Leadership education in the business of Leadership Development. The following section discusses the various areas of knowledge and experience. 

Academic Education:  May be met by a wide variety of specialties including the arts and sciences but not limited to psychology, sociology, communications, education, science, business, and management. See the Definition Section for additional information on academic requirements. 

Leadership Experience:  This qualification is met by professional Leadership experience over the past five years with individuals, teams, and organizations in profit and non-profit settings where at least 50% of the Leadership experience involved individuals and the remainder involved teams.  See the Definition Section for additional information on Leadership experience requirements. 

Continuing Education:  Education and training over the past five years consisting of seminars, workshops, college courses, and vocational training offerings that keep you informed of trends in Leadership Practice and Leadership Development. NCCULMP’s formal Body of Knowledge consists of a large number of subject matter areas and subareas that are recommended to meet this requirement.  See the Definition Section for additional information on continuing education requirements. 

Consulting Experience:  May be met by consulting to groups, individuals (one-on-one), conducting workshops, presenting seminars, publishing professional articles, engaging in classroom instruction, supervising Leaders-in-Training, and managing five or more Leaders during one or more engagements. See the Definition Section for additional information on consulting experience requirements. 

Leadership Education Program for UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Professionals™:  The LEPULMP™ consists of 180 hours of education, 180 hours of experiential learning, and 90 hours of business management as a qualifying practicum.   

Part 1 prepares one to master the basic functions and duties of a UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Specialist Professional. Here you learn how to design, deliver, and evaluate Leadership services for followers and teams with a range of Leadership needs.  

Part 2 prepares you to master the principles of UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Management.  Here you learn how to deliver service through Leadership by planning, designing, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling. 

Part 3 prepares you to master the principles of UlThule™ Leadership Mastery involved in building a successful UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Specialist practice.  Here you learn about the role of ethics, business planning, quality assurance, branding, and pubic relations in building your unique practices as an UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Specialist.

Levels of Certification 

FIRST LEVEL 

Certified UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Assistant™ Certification Standards, CULMA™ Certification Standards

A CULMA™ Certification Standards is one who meets NCCULMA™ Certification Standards standards to assist, with supervision, in a coaching engagement. 

Track 1 

  1. Academic Education: 30 college credits (must include communications course) Plus 1 other course from B,C, and D of the required coursework areas, and

  2. Coaching Experience: 2,000 hours within past five years, and

  3. Continuing Education:  20 clock hours from Body of Knowledge within past five years. 

Track 2 

  1. Academic Education: High school diploma or GED, Plus 6 college credits  (must include communications and 1 other course from the required coursework areas), and

  2. Leadership Mentoring Experience: 4,000 hours within past five years, and

  3. Continuing Education:  10 clock hours from Body of Knowledge with past five years. 

Track 3 

  1. Academic Education:  High school diploma or GED, plus the 90 Hour Mentoring Education Program for UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Professionals Part 1 (Core Content 1-11), and

  2. Leadership Mentoring Experience: 2,000 hours within the past three years, and

  3. Continuing Education: 20 clock hours of Body of Knowledge within last five years.

SECOND LEVEL 

Certified UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Mentoring Professional™ Certification Standards, CCP™ Certification Standards

A NCCULMP™ Certification Standards is one who meets NCCULMP™ Certification Standards standards to direct a coaching team and engagement. 

Track 1 

  1. Academic Education: Bachelor’s Degree (or higher). Must include communications course plus 7 other courses with at least one course from B,C, and D of the required coursework areas, and

  2. Leadership Experience: 4,000 hours within past five years, and

  3. Continuing Education:  30 clock hours from Body of Knowledge within past 5 years.

Track 2 

  1. Academic Education: Associate Degree including communications and 5 other courses with at least 1 from B,C, and D of the required coursework areas), and

  2. Leadership Mentoring Experience: 6,000 hours within past 5 years, and

  3. Continuing Education:  30 clock hours from Body of Knowledge with past 5 years, and

  4. CULMP™ Certification Standards: UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Mentoring Education Program for UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Professionals.

Track 3 

  1. Academic Education:  60+ college credits (must include a communications plus five other courses, with at least one course from B,C, and D of the required coursework areas), and

  2. Leadership Experience: 6,000 hours within the past three years, and

  3. Continuing Education: 30 clock hours of Body of Knowledge within last five years, and

  4. CULMP™ Certification Standards:  Leadership Education Program for UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Professionals.

Track 4 

  1. Academic Education:  90 Hour Leadership Education Program for Leadership Professionals Part 1 (Core Content 1-11) and 90 Hour Practicum (Basic Education Courses), and 90 Hour Leadership Education Program for Leadership Professionals Part 2 (Core Content 12-20) and 90 Hour Practicum (Advanced Leadership Course), and 12 college credits, not to include #1 and #2 (must include communications plus 1 other required coursework area), and

  2. Leadership Experience: 6,000 hours within the past five years, and

  3. Continuing Education: 30 clock hours of Body of Knowledge within last 5 years. 

Track 5

  1. High School diploma.

  2. Basic Leadership course that was completed within the past five years.  You must have this verified by submitting a certificate of completion signed by the course instructor.

  3. 6 years or 12,000 hours of Leadership experience within the past 10 years.

  4. 30 hours of CEUs.  You must document this.  This is base on the formula that 20% is 6 hours. 

THIRD LEVEL 

  • Certified UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Director™ Certification Standards, CULMD™ Certification Standards

  • A CULMD™ Certification Standard is one who meets NCCULP™ Certification Standards standards to serve as consultant or educator for a coaching program, team, or organization. 

Track 1 

  1. Academic Education: Master’s Degree. Must include communications course plus 7 other coursework areas with at least one course from B,C, and D of the required coursework areas, and

  2. Leadership Experience: 2,000 hours of Leadership experience within past 5 years, and

  3. Continuing Education:  40 clock hours from Body of Knowledge within past 5 years, and

  4. Leadership Experience:  200 hours of Leadership consulting experience within the past 5 years, and

  5. CULMP™ Certification Standards:  Leadership Education Program for UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Professionals. 

Track 2 

  1. Academic Education: Bachelor’s Degree including communications and 7 other coursework areas with at least 1 course from B,C, and D of the required coursework areas), and 

  2. Leadership Experience: 4,000 hours within past five years, and

  3. Continuing Education:  40 clock hours from Body of Knowledge with past five years, and

  4. Leadership Mastery Experience: 200 hours of Leadership consulting experience within the past three years, and

  5. CULMP™ Certification Standards: UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Education Program for Leadership Professionals. 

Track 3 

  1. Academic Education:  Bachelor’s Degree including communications and 7 other coursework areas with at least 1 course from B,C, and D of the required coursework areas), and

  2. Leadership Experience: 4,000 hours within the past 5 years, and

  3. Continuing Education: 40 clock hours of Body of Knowledge within last five years, and

  4. Leadership Consulting Experience: Arranged with the Track 3 Consultant Review Committee.  The candidate for certification will complete an independent study program with the Professional UlThule™ Leadership Manager and Consultant. You meet the consulting experience requirement for this track by successfully competing this study program and a project. Request a CCC, Track 3, packet for more information about the study program, and

  5. CEPCP™ Certification Standards:  Leadership Education Program for UlThule™ Coaching Professionals. 

(For those who are ULMD Track 2, the 200 hours of consulting and completion of the 2 year CULMD curriculum, with the qualified mentor, are eligible to apply for a level change to CULMC Track 3.) 

FOURTH LEVEL 

  • Certified UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Specialist™ Certification Standards, CULMS™ Certification Standards

  • A CULMS™ Certification Standards is one who displays the highest Leadership expertise.  She or he alone meets NCCULMS™ standards for earning recognition as a UlThule™ Leadership Mastery Specialist, one who trains and develops consulting Leaders.

  • The NCCULMS™ Certification Standards certification signifies that the Leader has attained the Pinnacle of the Leadership Profession.  As a special honor of recognition, the name of each Certified UlThule™ Ledership Mastery Specialist™ Certification Standards is listed in a special Registry with the NCCULP™ Certification Standards. 

  • The CULMS™ must meet all the qualification for the CULMS™ Track 1. 

  • Additionally, the CULMS™ requires 6,000 hours of Leadership experience, 30 hours of other coursework, 80 clock hours from the Body of Knowledge within the past 6 years, and 2,000 hours of Leadership consulting within the past five years.

Definition of NCCULM™ Certification Standards

A. Academic Education Standards 

1.  High School Diploma of GED

2.  Academic Degrees of College Credits for CCA (Track 1 or 2), CCD, CCD:

a.   From an accredited college or university, accredited by the US Department of Education

b.  Variety of degrees and college courses are accepted, provided that you successfully met the requirements for each course

c.   No time limit for degrees or courses

d.  Required course work must be grade “c” or better

e.   Vocational schools and technical credits must include an official evaluation from a recognized agency

f.   Foreign transcripts must contain an official evaluation from a recognized Independent Agency

b.  OFFICIAL transcript from each college or university referred to in your application (Student copies are excluded). Foreign transcripts and credits received from vocational or technical schools require an official evaluation from a recognized US college, university or Independent Agency.

c.   Certificate of satisfactory completion of CULMP Parts I & II and 90 Hour Practicum Parts I&II (CULMP C.C. 1-20).Take a minute to write an introduction that is short, sweet, and to the point.

B.  Leadership Experience Standards 

1.  Applicable Leadership work experience:

a.   Directly working with Leadership design/documentation 50% of the time b.  50% or more of clients are individuals

c.   20% of this experience can be during personal time (overtime)

d.  20% of this experience can be volunteer work (pro bono)

e.   Internship (if not included in academic credits)

2.  Leadership experience dates within past five years:

a.   On facility or program letterhead

b.  Verify each aspect used from B. 1-2 above c.   Letter must verify:

i.   Employee title

ii.   Dates of beginning and end of employment (within the last five years only for CULMP™, CULMP™, CULMD™, CULMS™.

iii.  Defines type of client population served

iv.  States actual total hours of coaching experience to date of letter (Be specific and state the number of hours worked, i.e., 20 hours a week. Do not be general or vague, but exact.)

4.  Letter signed by administrator, program director, or coaching supervisor

C. Continuing Education Standards 

1.  Time when application took continuing education:

a.   For initial certification, completed within previous five years, including college or university course work

b.  For certification renewal, completed within previous two years, including college or university course work

2.  Qualifying Continuing Education:

a.   Completed specifically to meet C.E.U. requirements

b.  Content from Body of Knowledge areas, CULMS, applicable course work from academic areas and Body of Knowledge

c.   Conditions to meet C.E.U. standards include: 60 minutes in length, taken in group setting with leader for discussion or has NCCLP approval. When

CEU are received, .1 CEU = 1 actual 60 minute clock hour d.  Types of acceptable CEUs include:

i.   Leadership related courses up to 20% of total

ii.   Mandatory workplace service, at least 30 minutes in length, can be up to 20% of total CEU required: 20% of CEU hours per level =CULMSA = 4 hours, CULMSM™ = 6 hours, CULMSD™ = 6 hours, CULSD™ = 8 hours.

iii.  30% CEU taken in coaching training facility that is a subscriber to NCCCP content, provided the documentation of attendance has the information in an approved manner (see section 4 below).30% of CEU hours per level= CULMSA = 6 hours, CULMSM™ = 12 hours, CULMSD™ = 9 hours

iv.  Coaching workshops when part of state or national conferences and conventions and with prior NCCLP approval.

v.  All distance/Advanced Technology education must be pre- approved by NCCLP.

vi.  Coaching related adult education, workshops, seminars, and educational sessions at professional meetings

vii.  Additional college course specifically for CEUs taken from approved colleges and universities in which one college credit hour

= 10 clock hours.

viii.  CULM programs may be used if not used to meet consulting experience for initial certification in D. below.

ix.  Leadership courses, other than CULMSP, can be used only for CEU

x.  College or university independent study or correspondence study courses that meet required content standards as defined in C. 2 above.

xi.  Professional articles published in recognized professional publications or peer reviews or online journals written by the applicant according to the following formula: every 400-600 word equated to I hour credit. Publications can count for no more than

20% of total CEU hours. Applicant must include all articles desired for credit with application.

xii.   Speeches given and seminars, workshops, services, and courses presented to meet standards C.2 above. Presentations count double because of the preparation time; but count only initial presentation if repeated). Only 20% of CEUs can be earn edfrom presentingcourses,workshops,speeches,andservices.

xiii.  Workplace services only can be a minimum of 30 minutes in length and earn a maximum of 20% of the total requires CEUs.

3.  The following do not meet NCCULMSP standards for CEUs:

a.   Entertainment, casual reading, travel b.  Business and committee meetings

c.   Self-taught courses

d.  Any home study, internet, advanced technology (video and audio tapes) not approved by NCCCP.

e.   Leadership experience does not necessarily constitute education.

4.  Documentation of continuing education (Sample certificate attached at end of this standard):

a.   Verification of CEUs being awarded from a college or university or other accrediting body, or

b.  A copy of certificate of attendance (original may be requested by NCCULP

office) that includes:

i.   Name of the attendee

ii.   Title of the educational course

iii.  Date of the course, sessions/workshops over eight hours need to include a time outline verifying the number of hours attended

iv.  Clock hours spend in the session v.  Instructor’s name and credentials vi.  Signature of instructor or sponsor vii.  Sponsoring agency

c.   If the certificate does not include the content above, attach to the certificate a copy of the brochure or explanation that contains the required information

d.  Copy of transcripts from each college or university from which you took course work including independent study and correspondence courses. Include title of course with outline, syllabus, or course description. Grade report alone not sufficient documentation.

e.   For published articles, include copy of the article which count of number of words comprising article

f.   For speeches given, workshops and courses presented, send proof that the presentation occurred. Acceptable proof includes verification on letterhead and signed by the sponsors, or a copy of the participant sign-in sheet and/or a signed letter.

g.  For workplace service, a copy of the sample certificate of attendance or verification including all of C.4.b. above and the signature of the workplace service director.

D. Consulting Experience Standards 

1.  Applicable Leadership consulting experience must meet criteria as specified in the Coach Experience Standards in Section B above. And may include any combination of:

a.   One-to-one Leadership consultation

b.  Teach a class or workshop of one hour minimum. Here you count the actual teaching time or presentation only the first time given. The content must be from the applicable course work standards specified in the Academic Education Standard above in Section 3 above, the CULMSP, and the Body of knowledge below.

c.   Articles published in professional publications count as 1 hour of consulting for each 400-600 words up to 20%. You must include a copy of the published materials with application.

d.  May count up to 40 hours direct on-site supervision of coaching related practicum.

e.   May count hours of managing a coaching staff of five or more persons at the rate of six hour per month up to 100 hours.

f.   At least 40 hours of consulting must be direct coaching consultation.

g.  At least 40 hours of consulting must occur outside place of current

employment.

h.  Leadership Consultant track 3 candidate contact NCCLP office to obtain details of Track 3 requirements.

2.  Consulting experience dates: 200 hours consulting experience have occurred within the last three years.

3.  Documentation of consulting experience:

a.   On organization or program letterhead (Sample letterhead enclosed in the Appendix) and verify each item used, from D. 1 above.

b.    Letter(s) to verify employee title, dates of beginning and end of assignment over the last three years only, and actual total hours of experience to date of letter.

c.   Letter signed by administrator, program director, or supervisor

d.   For all teaching assignments, submits a copy of the course or seminar announcement or advertising material such as brochure, a copy of certificate of attendance, and verification that the session was presented (ref. C.4.f) including:

i.   Title of educational offering, date and time of the day offered (ex., 02-24-2011, 2:00-4:00) and place of presentation with

ii.   Presenter’s name and qualification for teaching such as degree or certification #, or experience.

What are the Certification Fees?

1.  Certified UlThule™ Leadership Specialist, CULS………………………$150

2.  Certified UlThule™ Leadership Consultant, CCC………………………………...$100

3.  Certified UlThule™ Leadership Director, CCD…………………………………...$90

4.  Certified UlThule™ Leadership Assistant, CCA…………………………………..$80

NCCLP™ charges a nonrefundable processing fee of $50 for new applications, renewals, and level change s. This is included in the Certification Fee Schedule in the above table. Returned checks will incur a $25 penalty fee. NCCLP™Nwill not process applications without payment. We deposit all checks upon receipt. This does not guarantee certification at a ny level. Refunds are processed based on the policies for refunds of NCCLP™ as outlined in these Standards.

Does Certification Require Periodic Renewal?

The policies governing renewals are as follows: 

1.  You must renew your certification every two years.

2.  Renewal is granted only if you have satisfactorily completed the CEU requirements of NCCLP™ during the two years after initial certification as follows:

a.   Assistant – 20 Hours CEUs b. Director – 30 Hours CEUs c. Consultant – 30 Hours CEUs d.  Specialist – 30 Hours CEUs

3.  For applicable CEUs, see page information on the various Tracks above.

4.  For all levels of certification, the renewal fee is $60.

5.  You must complete the renewal (applied for and approved) by the expiration date on the Renewal Form . After this,  a late renewal fee of $75 will be add  ed to the renewal fee. The late fee must be paid with the renewal fee of $60.

6.  NCCLP™ does not base expiration of renewal on receipt of payment, but remains constant with the date issued at the time of certification.

Level Change

If you wish to change the  level of your professional standing, NCCLP™ require you to complete a new application. NCCLP™ will include this in your file for review. You are not required to duplicate any information already on the first application. You are only required to add the    new information on which you base your application for certification at the higher level of expertise. The fee for Level Change is $50. Expiration dates remain the same.

NCCLP™ Pre-Approval Numbers for Educational Offerings 

As a service to certified instructors and for the security of participants, NCCLP™ offers pre-approval numbers for courses and workshops. This can be placed on all marketing brochures and for the certificates of Attendance. Educators and instructors can contact the NCCLP™ office for pre-Approval Application Forms. Leadership professionals can forward names and addresses of CEU providers to the NCCLP™ office and, in turn, we will forward a Pre-Approval Packet.

NCCLP™ Specializations 

NCCLP™ offer s professional coaches opportunities to gain credentialing in several specialties of coaching.  For each designation, the coach submits evidence indicating the successful completion of 20 CEUs from the selected Body of Knowledge area. You may select a specialization at anytime. 

NCCLP™ requires applicants for specialization to pay a $30 fee for each specialization requested and verify the successful completion of the required CEUs. Initial specializations can go back five years for the CEUs. In line with the NCCLP™ standards, additional specializations can go back only two years because they are based on the Continuing Education requirements for certification renewal.

Specialization Fees 

The Initial specialization charge is $130 per specialization. Specializations are renewed every two years for a fee of $100. Applications for renewal are to complete 10 CEUs in the specialization Body of Knowledge during the preceding two year period.

The NCCCP™ Core Education Program for Leadership Professionals™ (CEPLP™)

CEPLP™ is a  three part program designed to build a  noteworthy foundation in the most relevant knowledge areas, skills, and practices of professional coaching. The    CEPLP™ complements the NCCCP™ certification programs by covering the entire 360° environment of coaching   from  its  three fundamental perspectives: (1) client,  (2) Leader, and (3) profession. The CEPLP™ explores in-depth the Leadership profession and what you need to know and do to become a proficient Leadership Specialist who successfully assists followers and teams. 

Each part of the CEPLP™ program consists of a series of short and powerful  seminars and learning modules selected from our repository of Knowledge Areas. Each seminar consists of four modules. 

Part One focuses on the Leadership profession. It explores the nature of the Leadership process, including:

The CEPLP™ is the Leaders’ Remedy 

The CEPLP™ includes 65 modules specially designed to achieve High-Impact Performance in mentoring leaders and their teams. The power of our Program flows from its flexibility, integration, flow, and self-design capability. Although we offer standard course outlines, our Leadership skills development program works best when you select your desired topics from our continually growing catalogue of education modules. In this way, you can self-design a program according to the characteristics of your specific requirements. We encourage you to design your own program to take ownership of your Leadership career from day one with us. You will receive a certificate for each seminar that you complete. You are also free to request a special module in the event that you do not see the desired topic in the catalogue.
