Dr. Newkirk is a socially sensitive person with primary concern for the elderly, orphaned, and the disadvantaged. He remains concerned about the problems facing the elderly in this technological and fast paced age. Currently, actively working to reduce the isolation of the elderly in nursing and retirement homes. Contributed to the establishment of an orphanage in the Third World.

Dr. RAYMOND L. NEWKIRK
Originator of the UlThule™ Approach to Leadership Mastery
Raymond L. Newkirk, Ph.D., Psy.D., Ph.D., Th.C. is an award winning and credentialed leader having earned advanced degrees and certifications in several disciplines including the Ph.D. with Distinction in Systems Science under Bela Banathy. Dr. Newkirk is a Leadership Specialist, scholar, author, presenter, consulting Specialist, and entrepreneur. As a strategic systems pioneer, he co-founded the Systems Management Institute, a Systems Science company with a global reputation for delivering programs that changed a range of industries including Artificial Intelligence, Banking, Computers, Defense, Education, Logistics, and Software. Dr. Newkirk began his Leadership journey in the mid-1970’s and has amassed over 40 years of global Leadership Experience. Raymond L. Newkirk, Psy.D., Ph.D., Ph.D., Th.C. is a strategic systems pioneer.
In 1982 Dr. Newkirk completed his first doctoral dissertation, In Defense of Reason at Columbia Pacific University. Based on his Master’s Thesis, What is Philosophy or Life is Metaphysics in Motion, the dissertation focused on the role of Classical Philosophy in molding the development of human thought and its influence on contemporary business practice. He was especially interested in researching the contribution of Classical Philosophy to the development and continual refinement of Methodology in Behavioral Science. This expanded interest in the influence of Classical Philosophy on Human Behavior led Dr. Newkirk to focus his doctoral program on a double major consisting of the Philosophy of Science and Behavioral Science. A revised version of his dissertation was published by Systems Management Institute Press as The Chronicles of the Making of a Philosopher, a five-volume set. It remains the first supportive set of books on the value of Mother Philosophy in Leadership Thinking and Practice published by a corporate press. For over thirty-five years, Dr. Newkirk has offered the only regular Leadership course on UlThule™ Leadership Mastery through Systems Thinking.
Since 1984 Dr. Newkirk focused his formal research on the influence of the Philosophy of Science in both Systems Thinking and the Behavioral Sciences in general and the Mastery of Leadership specifically. Having worked with and for some of the most notable leaders in business, academia, defense, government, and health care organizations throughout the world, Dr. Newkirk has become one of the foremost applied Leadership Systems Thinkers worldwide. As a result of his personal global Leadership and Systems experience spanning the USA, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the Caribbean, and his continuous academic research in Systems Thinking, Clinical Psychology, and Theology, Dr. Newkirk has developed the first ever Rapid Problem-Solving Intelligent System focused specifically on improving the problem-solving capabilities of Leaders and their teams of followers. Dr. Newkirk has written and delivered many articles, papers, addresses, and presentations on Leadership Mastery and has been a consultant to the major organizations covering a wide range of challenges.
In 1992, following a significant Leadership assignment in the Middle East and Asia, Dr. Newkirk completed his second doctoral dissertation in the field of Human Activity Systems at the Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center in San Francisco. His dissertation was entitled “A Generic Model of the Human Activity Systems that Engage in Multi-Vendor Computer Performance Evaluation”. The study presented a generic enterprise model of the Human Activity Systems (HAS) that engage in complex Strategic Business Environment-Information Technology evaluations involving two or more vendors. It resulted in a Human Systems Design Methodology. The Systems Approach focused on the optimum design of the HAS infrastructure according to system type. It presented a conceptual framework as a Meta-methodology used to design the Human Systems Design Methodology to be used by Leaders to engage in Strategic Enterprise design enabled by Information Systems. The Ph.D. was awarded with “Distinction”.
In 2004, Dr. Newkirk completed his third doctoral degree in the field of Professional Psychology at California Coast University in San Ana, California. His Major paper was entitled “Principles Characterizing the Psychosomatic Movement in Psychology – A Retrospective Analysis”. The study examined how the Psychosomatic Movement influenced the practice of Health Psychology and how changing patterns of illness have contributed to the rise of Health Psychology. The study also described the roles of self-efficacy, hardiness, optimism, psychological control, and Lazarus’s model of psychological appraisal in stress management and raised possible biological, spiritual, and sociocultural factors implicated in health maintenance. It advocated a spiritual framework for modifying health behaviors and balancing life-styles to attain appropriate physical and psychological outcomes. It located coping, immunocompromise, relational lifestyle factors, and emotional and physical rehabilitation within a spiritual framework and establishes human spirituality as the linking pin between depression, loneliness, the management of interpersonal conflict, and immunocompromise. It concludes by outlining an organizing framework for implementing effective programs focused on spiritual well-being. This is a work in Spirituality, Psychology, Health and Human Activity Systems Thinking. Take a minute to write an introduction that is short, sweet, and to the point.
In 2006, Dr. Newkirk published the first of a series of books focusing on Leadership Design. This book culminates more than fifteen years reflection about the power of Human Systems Thinking to bring potent leadership wisdom to a global population. Dr. Newkirk originally conceived of this book during his Y2K consulting experience as the Chief Executive Officer of the Systems Management Institute. Since then, Dr. Newkirk has written a series of books that examine more deeply a Human Activity System’s view of Leadership from several perspectives. These works include a four-volume set entitled “The Psychology of Insider Threat Prevention”. Dr. Newkirk next authored a single volume entitled “Zest for Life”. He followed this book with a two-book set entitled “Executive Life in the 21st Century”. Next, he authored a single volume entitled “Building Workplace Relationships to Enjoy Career Success - Learning to Navigate the Sociopaths at Work”. Yes Virginia, Sociopaths can even be Systems Thinkers. Just think Sherlock Holmes. He was a highly functioning Sociopath.
Systems Thinking is at the core of each book. Following these, Dr, Newkirk decided to relax and change things up a bit by authoring the single volume, “Coaching Insights of Dr. Ray”. This is where he reminds readers not to take advice from other people. Dr. Ray does not give advice to people. He prefers to share insight. This is better than advice. Following these books, Dr. Newkirk decided to branch out a bit and wade into the unexplored territory of Cosmological Theology, Theodicy, or Theological Cosmology. You get the point. He made this a set by authoring a book and then following it up with a Workbook to encourage readers to have more fun with serious topics. While his book is entitled “Cosmic Truth: God, Us, and the Extraterrestrials, Dr. Newkirk entitled the workbook as “Cosmic Truth: God, Us, and the Extraterrestrials Workbook”. This was a productive time for Dr. Newkirk, but it is only touching the surface of his publications.
In 2014, Dr. Newkirk relocated Systems Management Institute to Orlando, Florida. Soon afterwards, he embarked on a program of research to develop and share insights about the nature, power, and potential of Paleo-Leadership as a Human Activity System. While he refines his Leadership Mastery Process, he continues to author his new Paleo-Leadership series.
In 2025, he is about to launch a new academic discipline by publishing a major work entitled “Adventures in Paleo-Leadership”. He is currently working on this volume which takes us way back to the earliest beginnings of Leadership as it was practiced in Ancient Times. He then escorts us through history to see how Leadership emerged, changed, and eventually became what it is today. He does this by examining how it was practiced back then and how it is practiced in this Technological Age. In some ways, it is fair to say that “while Leadership has changed over the many millennia of human experience, in some ways it has stayed the same. Leadership is still about leaders leading their followers.

Today, Dr. Newkirk focuses on the challenge of Leadership Mastery. He is a strong believer of human dignity. In his view, humanity is different than anything else on this planet and probably the Cosmos. Each person deserves to be respected as an intelligent being with significant capabilities for rigorous thinking, scientific research, methodology design, and above all, ethical behavior derived from a well-developed moral sense guided by the principles of “Right Reason” which elevate the dignity of a “Personhood” shared by every person. With colleagues like Bud Parish and “Gabe” Gabriel, he has presented a series of workshops and seminars for senior leaders in Europe and Asia in the methods of Human Activity Systems Design, Systems Thinking, and the Behavioral Dynamics of Leadership Mastery.
In recent years, Dr. Newkirk has dedicated himself to refining his Meta-Methodological framework for assisting leaders with mastering both the principles of Leadership from a Human Activity Systems perspective and the process of designing a Living Systems Approach to Leadership Design that is most appropriate to attaining Leadership Mastery by delivering highly potent Leadership Practice. In support of his Leadership Mastery initiative, he designed his Applied Intuitive Solutions Intelligent Platform™ (AISIP™) to deliver Rapid Real-Time Problem Solving by eliminating about 50% of the steps common to problem definition and solution generation. Throughout his career, Dr. Newkirk has assisted clients as an experienced mentor, Leadership Mastery Specialist, and High-Performance enabler.

Leadership Errors that Require Correction

Successful Leadership is not only for the young. The immaturity of youth is the obstacle that blocks the benefits of Leadership Mastery. Authentic Leadership best occurs when practiced in an environment of life-long learning.
The Leader is not the principal cause of the learning that occurs in the organization. The primary cause of learning is the Leader’s own mind. Leaders are only a secondary cause of learning. Leaders are instrumental aids who assist the process of learning by guiding the mental and emotional activity of followers.
There is more than one kind of learning and one kind of teaching.
Leadership is not the primary preparation for begin successful or earning a living. Leadership should include such preparation, but it is not the most important of the basic objectives of fundamental Leadership.
Core Maxims Guiding™ Leadership
The Leader must get to know the followers – how the followers attacks problems, confuses things, loses heart or endures.
The Leader is concerned about the follower’s work in which the follower displays his or her skills. This work is to be open to criticism. The Leader works with the follower to gain explanations of the work and performance levels.
Immediacy is crucial. Time is necessary.
Insightful critique is essential to progress. The Leader has to recognize error and adequately describe it to the follower.
