Leadership and consulting are entrenched in the corporate landscape.  While Leaders and consultants have traditionally assisted business clients over the last several decades, probably centuries, the 21st Century has witnessed the rapid spread of these professionals into every avenue of corporate, government, and private life.  Considering the varieties of background and qualification, the levels of experience, records of achievement, limits in knowledge, skill, and proficiency, and depth of developmental histories, I must ask “What compels Executives to select their particular Leaders and consultants?” 

My experience reveals that many claiming to be Leaders and consultants have actually fallen into these professions by default.  On closer examination, I have found that they lacked even the most rudimentary emotional and professional development required for success in such demanding life altering roles. Indeed, many consulting firms and corporate organizations had appointed individuals to these vital positions even though they had not been adequately prepared for the responsibilities characteristic of Leadership and Consulting.  Beyond this, I further discovered that people had begun their careers as in Leadership and Consulting merely by fiat fully lacking the requisite training, exposure, experience, or record of success that enables one to make the leap from technician to professional Leader or consultant.

Obviously, this is not the best situation for any person or organization.  The status quo is ineffective for the people who depend on them and unfair to the Leaders and consultants who must suffer through this situation.
